With all the acclaim Rebecca Makkai's The Great Believers has received in the past year (including winning the ALA's 2019 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction just yesterday and becoming a National Book Award finalist), I thought this was a good time to re-post my review of her previous novel,
