I did not know her, either. But I admire her courage and find comfort and strength in her confidence in the power and determination of women.

This is so very sad. I did not know her, but I put her manuscript on the longlist this year for the W.S. Porter Prize. I am so sorry to hear about this and send my best wishes to her grieving family.

Thank you, Bill, for writing about Susan and remarking on her tremendous bright light. She was a special force in the world -- so fierce, so funny, so perceptive. Her work with my novel was life-changing. With one glance, she knew my characters better than I knew them and sensed their deepest wants and hurts. I so admire how she used her talent to fight for social justice and for women. Not normally a joke-teller, she told me a story about a hike she once took. At the end of the trail she came upon a little cabin with a sign in front that read, "Dunn Lookin'." When I commented that I'm still not done looking, she said, "Oh I am. I love my home in Santa Fe. I love where I am." The world really lost a beautiful soul this weekend. The sharing of her great talent was a gift I will try to honor and never forget. Amy Tercek
