For me, when an author asks me to read and review their book, I need to feel something in the email - something that connects me to that person, and that's usually through the email itself. If an author can compose the type of email that intrigues me, makes me want to get to know the author better, then I might take a chance. Also, too many authors ask me to read their books WAY too late. I need a few months lead time to know if I can fit that book into my schedule. With all the ARCs I get, I can't promise when I'll get to a book that's already been published, if ever. That's because my priority is to read books so that I can post my review as close to the publication date as possible.
