Six writers on what inspired them to start writing
O (Oprah) Magazine asked six popular writers (4 women, 2 men) how and when they knew they were meant to be a writer. Respondents include Meg Wolitzer (The Interestings), Alafair Burke (If You Were Here), Jeannette Walls (The Glass Castle and The Silver Star), Domenica Ruta (With or Without You), Benjamin Percy (Red Moon) and Rick Bass (All the Land to Hold Us). Their responses, which range widely, are worth reading.
Hat tip to Alafair Burke for tweeting the link today. (If you haven't read one of her books, you really should. She's almost as good as her father, the legendary Bard of the Bayou, James Lee Burke.)
